Landscape design wasn’t John Spayde’s first career choice, but it may be his destiny.
Growing up in Mansfield, Ohio, John was surrounded by lush, natural landscape. His family owned a wholesale nursery and tree farm where John worked during each summer. The nursery taught him as much about horticulture as it did about hard work and attention to details. John learned to appreciate the trees and shrubbery, valuing each for the seasonal beauty they brought to landscape design.
John’s mother, a talented member of the Kingswood Garden Center, nurtured her own flower garden and won many awards for her beautiful flower arrangements. John grew up surrounded by flowers, trees and garden design that worked in harmony.
The combination inspired a love of nature that stayed with John through his first career as an executive with Xerox. While working in California, John visited Joshua Tree National Park, a visit that would change his life. John was awestruck by the park. A successful corporate career was rewarding, but did not compare to how John felt surrounded by the natural beauty of Joshua Tree. That visit instilled a new dream: to create remarkable landscapes that bring beauty to family homes.
John immediately began plans to return to Ohio and follow his dream. He opened Landfare Ltd. in 2000 with the motto “Capturing Nature Through Timeless Design™.” The company has grown through unique design, exceptional installation and a relentless commitment to customer service. One of the overarching principles of Landfare Ltd. is that landscape design is really about creating an outdoor environment that enhances his clients’ lives.

Listening to clients is the key to designing a landscape that fulfills their dreams – and no dream is too big for John and Landfare Ltd! To that end, John launched a second company, Highland Palermo, to design and build interior spaces. Working together, the teams from both companies can ensure all aspects of each client’s wish list are meticulously executed.
Under John’s leadership both companies offer that same sense of harmony he was surrounded by as a young man. His vision remains true to his goal: “Capturing Nature Through Timeless Design™.”
