Now Is The Best Time To Plant Bulbs

After a long, cold winter, spring flowers breaking through the ground are a very welcomed sight. Planting bulbs in the fall will ensure you have the celebration of color you want for your home.

Site selection for spring flowering beds is very important. You want to give a burst of color to the homeowner and their neighbors from the outside of the home (who doesn’t love pulling into the drive and seeing those vibrant flowers in full display) but also be able to be seen from inside the home. The colors selected should compliment a home’s early blooming landscape trees and shrubs. We choose bulbs that bloom sequentially so the beds continue to bloom throughout the season. And with bulbs, more are always better! Our landscapers plant 10 bulbs per square foot of garden bed. That way we are sure there will be an explosion of color for our clients.

Beautiful Trees

Beautiful flowering trees. They pick up your spirits, bring a smile to your face and convince you that better days lay ahead. This White Princess Dogwood, in full bloom, truly is a royal majestic site to see!

Part of the landscape design process is knowing how trees and shrubs grow, and what they will look like during each season. This walkway is gorgeous throughout the year.

Blooming Bulbs Bring Beauty

Advance Planning Pays Off

To get lovely bountiful beds of spring flowers you need to plan and plant today. In this zone, you can plant until a hard freeze, so you still have time.

Here are a few tips to consider:

  • Decide on an existing planting bed you want to use or design a new bed.
  • Select bulbs based on shape, color and blooming times. Bulbs sold online and in nurseries show when you can expect blooms.
  • Prepare the soil as directed for your bulbs.
  • Plant according to directions.
  • Plan to plant more bulbs than you think you need…squirrels and chipmunks will dig up their share!

Pro Tip from the Professionals at Landfare Ltd.

Because we know an abundant display of spring flowers make the best impact, we take every effort to deter furry critters from digging up bulbs. After you prepare the planting bed and put the bulbs in place, cover the area with chicken wire. Tuck it in around the planting bed, then cover with soil. While not 100% effective, you will see really good results and more blooms in the spring.

A Perfect Home Garden

Backyard home gardening is booming today. From a few pots on your patio or deck to a full fledged garden, homeowners are embracing the joy of prepping, planting, caring for and eating their own garden’s fruits and vegetables. In fact, in 2020 Burpee seeds sold more seeds than ever in its 144 year history!

Custom Designed Garden

Landfare Ltd. created the perfect custom garden for one of our clients. Raised beds, pea gravel walkways with a pergola covered seating area, working in this French inspired garden brings delight to the home owners. A custom build fence surrounds the garden, ensuring that all the delicious lettuce, tomatoes and herbs are enjoyed by the family, not furry raiders.

Backyard Living and Entertaining

In addition to the custom garden, we designed a cut limestone patio with a fire pit. What a great place to enjoy peaceful evenings after a days work in the garden!
